RATIONALE

The course has allowed me to experiment in almost every type of visual content, & has allowed me to understand what I personally like to direct & create. Some projects & topics I thought I would hate, I actually loved & learnt a lot from them, this knowledge has transferred over other projects. Documentaries are what I prefer to create, there’s something about stories & people’s lives that give me passion & a sense of achievement once it’s finished.
Both my documentary in level 2 & my level 3 FMP assignment were big insights into working with clients & creating something that felt & looked beautiful. Furthermore I have worked with both the clients after the projects had ended.
Although I didn’t achieve my original idea for my level 3 documentary, I did create something that both myself & the client where happy with & from it allowed me to understand that better planning was needed, visiting the locations & getting full confirmation directly was essential. It made me work under a time restriction to meet the deadline but still achieve a film that would meet the assignment brief.
I’ve learnt a lot from these projects, & I have developed my strengths & weaknesses.
STRENGTHS
-
I have my own visual style
-
The skills to easily work with clients
-
To be able to adapt from problems
WEAKNESSES
-
I don’t experiment enough away from my visual style especially in documentaries.
Although with projects such as the music videos & stylistic they gave me the chance to experiment both in production & editing.
Before joining the course, I didn’t think that any of the films I’ve created, would have formed such a diverse portfolio of work for my website.
PROJECT CONCEPT

What’sYourStory.com / The Art of storytelling Documentary
What’s your story, is a collective website for people to share stories & to be told to a wider audience. Where selected stories from people, projects & businesses may be selected in order for myself to produce a documentary on them, where they are later placed onto the site.
But in order for the site to work, it needs an opening film, a trailer almost & my aim is to launch the site, produce a video about the project in a style of a documentary & what storytelling is to other creative people/ projects they run. Prior this to use someone’s story to create a documentary on them would be added extension to show the success of the site but also throughout filming this project & gaining all this information from people I will be left with a load of interviews what I can also submit as induvial films. As I won’t use a complete 20 minute interview in the film but rather small sections, so why not use the interviews as content/behind the scenes for this project.
Anything from, Film, music, dance, business’s missions and really just anyone. Anyone that has a story & has a mission in life are the people I want to talk to, I want to interview high end people but also re-visit people I’ve previously worked with before & to make the project even more of a task I want to try to combine all my year projects into one, if this means finding creatives to work with me for example I want to include stop motion/animation I have little experience in this so finding another creative to collab with me, will make it much of fun project & also allows me to build my confidence further and meet new people.

SECTIONS TO DOCUMENTARY

SECTION 1: Opening of every form art/project into a few minutes. (Best interviews, best clips)

SECTION 2: A deeper look into each art form & their style of storytelling, this will show around 2-3 different people in that industry. Showing their views & what they do.

SECTION 3: The run down, where I or someone else will evaluate storytelling, what it is - what it does.

AUDIENCE
From this my audience reaches everyone, but to scale it down from 15 - 75 because these are the types of people who can not only get involved but also the type of people who will view these documentaries & it's film.
The project focuses at all ages because its about art and storytelling and all the different arts have different age ranges, but it will be based at the type of arts in the documentary and the people in those sectors.

ACTION PLAN & TIMETABLE

My action plan is placed into different sections for each month, identifying goals & targets that must be completed, given that each section is a month I feel this is more than long enough to hit each goal and possible start other tasks earlier.

MONTH ONE - RESEARCH & PRE-PRODUCTION

MONTH TWO - FILMING & BEHIND THE SCENE JOURNALS

MONTH THREE - COMPLETE EDIT & DIRECTOR COMMENTARY.

EVALUATION

Evaluating my work throughout the production with hugely include of journals, showing research I’ve done & what I plan to do but if that changes showing the changes from that. I will give myself targets & then once met compare the results to what I wanted to what changed during production and with working with other creators, I will show my initial ideas & thoughts on what I want to happened & show the process of what actually happened but to minimise any disruptions or problems that could happen, I won’t base my project around this collaborative idea but get back up shots in case anything does go wrong.
