3 INTERVIEWS IN ONE DAY!

This day was a rather busy day, I had Alan Bec a inventor in the morning to interview, a business arts space owner called, Richard Holt and two lovely organisers and founders of GO-create to interview later in the night.

Lets start with Alan Bec, I have known Alan from previous projects and know just how inspiring his project is & how well his story fits into the project and so i contacted him instantly he agreed upon doing it. This was at the very start of the project, later down the line I contacted Alan seeing if we could sort dates, upon that we where stuck with where to film. His house? someone local like a cafe etc and just film it like a normal conversation but obviously knew I wanted him in creative business space and what better way than to search google

After some quick searching around google I came across ''We the Curious'' the science place at Bristol, with this me and Alan had sorted a date for the Wednesday the 2nd to film, but with still no location.

I texted Alan to give him few idea's of what I wanted as a location and funny enough he got back to me with ''We the curious'' He knew the CEO so chances of getting the space seemed much more likely than anywhere else and I have to give Alan full credit for sorting the final location. Alan got straight onto sending emails and making phone calls, it came to Wednesday and as expected we didn't here anything back as the CEO was busy and we left only two days to get the location. I then told Alan when I'd be free for the following week, Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. We aimed for the Monday but since it was bank holiday they wouldn't enough staff to control the building and so we went with Tuesday where they agreed, if we would be there for 9 and out by 10- this being plenty of time before they opened.

But this left me having to plan to get up at 5:30 in the morning, with then 30 minutes to get enough petrol for my car and further to that to get in Bristol during heavy traffic, this would get me in for 8:30 where me and Alan would meet at a Cafe.

But of course that didn't happen, I got up at 5:30 on time but then decided to leave at 6:30 this still gave me enough time to get to Bristol by 8:30 - Alan the day before had sent the address for the place we would meet and car park near by, I went straight to the petrol station where I was there for a good 15 minutes due to it being fully packed. From where I live It takes just over a hour to get to Bristol with traffic slightly more, But on the road just before 7 and everything is going great until i get off the M5 and heading into Bristol, the exist I took was very confusing and I ended up heading into a small services as the road into there and the road I should have took where pretty much right next to each other with this minor de-tour I found my way out and got back onto the road. We where heading into 7:40 by now and still 20 minutes away - in fact I took I screen shot when coming off the motorway of the sat nav directions and how far I was

From this traffic was bad all the way into Bristol, smooth drive, stop, smooth drive, stop - it was constant. It was finally coming up to 8:15 and Alan had texted me saying he was at the cafe by now I was in realistic time a few minutes round the corner from the car park, yet it took me 20 minutes to get round, so I got into the car park by 8:30. Not a problem we didn't need to start filming by 9, the cafe was a 2 minute walk from the car park, so I went in & Alan was there, we had a little talk about the day and other projects and then headed over to we the curious, where you could see it across the bridge.

Upon arriving Alan was told via email to wait outside the front door, as 9 came closer no one was around, so we noticed a door opposite where - colleges where buzzing in and going to work, we waited around for the next person and asked them kindly if we could come in & hopefully they could help us. We got taken in by a really funny guy who asked about the project and gave us a tour of the office spaces, we where then handed over to someone else who took us back to another floor where we found the correct person we was meeting.

A lady then took us around and we had a look to find where to film the interview, since groups where setting up both down stairs and in the original venue where we imagined to film, we found a set of stairs that lead to a open space, where a fancy business like building stood in the background. We went ahead and did the interview there, running one slight problem of the memory stick being full, luckily enough I had another card with a lot more space and we finished of the interview - it was a success, with one of the funniest parts being this.

After this we went around doing a little shoot of some clips of the science place with Alan in, story was all around so it made a perfect space to film, for visuals but also I had visuals from other projects with Alan - so this was just a case of making use of extra filming time and space while we had it!

We next took to outside where I needed to get some clips of Bristol, but we decided go and get a drink to re-view the footage, before that though we actually met Anna starkey the CEO of we the curious randomly, out of the blue outside so it was great to talk to her about what we had filmed. After me and Alan had reviewed the footage, we split ways - i went and dropped some bags off at my car and then carried on filming for my project, making use of time in Bristol.

RICHARD HOLT INTERVIEW

I filmed the interview richard later in the night, I was due to film with Jenny and Liz at CICCIC in Taunton where Richard runs, so I emailed him and we agreed I would come a hour earlier to set up and film his interview, where I let Jenny know that she come arrive a little later. - We set up and had a talk before filming and the interview went really well, he had the questions already printed out so he knew what he was going to say, the full interview is listed below

The really nice thing about this interview was the open space, we had freedom in the space to set up how we wanted, so Richard was a equally as comfortable as me and it was nice and light and quiet what was key, towards the end of the footage you hear Jenny coming in but she quickly saw that we was filming so sat in and watched. Afterwards we all talked for a little while, while we waited for Liz to arrive.

JENNY AND LIZ INTERVIEW

So meeting with Jenny and Liz was a battle for time, I had been in contact with Jenny for a while, just wanting to contact her, but proir to attending the networking event she runs, we spoke a little more there and I was introduced to Liz who runs the event alongside Jenny. To this why not involve them both and it also mixes up the documentary interviews a little bit and gives me the chance to experiment with having a interview with more than one person.

Richard was almost done packing his things as he had to leave for family for a hour or so, so once again we had the space to ourselves for a good 1hr before anyone else would arrive for the networking event taking place that night. We slightly changed the set up so it wasn't the same as Richards where both of them had the questions and their answers with them, I directed them to where Jenny would answer and then Liz and basically to where they where free to have a conversation beyond them selves. And it worked really nicely, it was the longest the interview but the answers I got from all the interviews where just perfect. Below is the full interview.
