THE THIRD & FOURTH INTERVIEWS

THE THIRD & FOURTH INTERVIEWS

PHILIPPA REID

Philippa Reid was a artist I met at creative club when I was visiting Jenny who runs the club alongside other events. During attending this club I got given a few business cards but Phillippa was one of them that seemed really interested let alone her style art was different & that was something I was personally looking for the documentary.

Upon this though we had a slight problem she wasn't from down here, she lived a few hours away and so the next time she was down wasn't until now the first week of May/End of April.

Prior to this it also mean't location, there are plenty of local parks that we could use but I wanted somewhere different, somewhere that could provide both outdoors and indoor use in the case the weather wasn't to good. Upon this I searched around and came across Hestercombe Gardens, where I contacted them.

The communications manger got back to me agreeing we could use the garden, where we further talked and I asked if I could make a visit - my visit was shown in this blog post

With having arranged a time with hestercombe, i got back to Phillppa with the confirmed time, where we also arranged a meeting point for me to pick her up as she would have no travel up to Hestercombe Gardens.

THE DAY

The day had come as arranged I picked up Philippa, we spoke on the way down just about the project & different things really, once we got there I explained what we would do, including looking around the garden for suited place that wasn't too busy. Upon arrival we headed straight to the desk area where I explained I was here to film (although it was probably rather obvious with all the equipment I had)

The lady at the desk knew about the filming & asked for my name, she then gave both me & Philippa some visitor stickers on what I received last time I visited, we headed down to the gardens where luckily it wasn't too busy. Almost instantly we noticed a lovely backdrop, and also somewhere that seemed rather concealed, to this there was a little bench and so we set up here.

The main reason we picked Hestercombe is very much because it's artys, it's also somewhere new for me but also says a lot about Philippa, her art comes from a rather late century and a lot of her works does form nature into it - so it was the perfect fit for the interview.

Philippa had bought the questions with little notes, so while I got set up - It gave her time to re-go over her answers.

Getting on we filmed the interview and it went great, during the interview I adapted on answers that Phillipa gave me to get more out of her because in previous interviews I felt I didn't do this as well as I could have.

Since it was still rather quiet, I felt it would be nice to get some shots of Phillippa in action, so we moved further down the garden, once again in a rather concealed area so we wouldn't harm or disturb anyone's day. The only slight problem we had was the wind kept coming and going but dispute this we pushed forward.

As mentioned in our emails, we decided to get a drink and have a look over the footage, first was the interview - that went perfectly. When opening however I could;nt hear anything first I thought maybe it's just my laptop or headphones but it was'nt the test footage I had done before filming the interview had audio but the interview did'nt. We then thought then maybe it was the battery in the mic, but I did a few more tests and it was'nt.

This left me very confused and I think Phillippa too, I apologised hugely because it now mean't we had to re-do it but at the same time we both kept our heads high and just went ''maybe the second one will be better & mistakes & problems will happen'' and I think it helped with the good weather, it started getting warmer when filming the second interview.

Upon setting up again, I did rather rush it & the framing wasn't as nice compared to the first interview however I still really like the frame & the second interview went just as well!

I felt interview one shown more the garden but the framing also just looked more controlled, it felt more professional where as comparing too framing the interview for the second time it was slightly panned up, it still has a nice frame to it but I feel if I could go back I would select the first framing I did.

However finishing the interview went great as mentioned and we went back and I let Phillipa watch the footage, she was very pleased & so was I! We spoke a little more and then we set of back to Taunton where I dropped her off, while driving back however we spoke about her artist residence (Is the reason she is down in Taunton) where we started to later plan on email for me to come down to film her at her event.

(FILMING TO TAKE PLACE THURSDAY THE 3RD)

Much like Simon who i interviewed they have taken the project to their social accounts! And people are excited to see the final project!

DAVID RICHMOND

Original I was mean't to be interviewing a Inventor called Alan Bec but due to the location we where aiming to use not confirmed, we couldn't do his interview, however Alan had introduced me to David. David who does walks & helps people talk about thoughts & even works with team, he's someone who enjoys the moment and walking is something he is hugely passionate for.

This was a very last minute plan, me and David had planned to met after I had filmed with Alan, prior to the day before I told him I would confirm in the morning of the filming day weather I'd be with Alan in the morning. Unfortunately I wouldn't be but it mean't I could travel down and interview David.

On call he suggested to meet at a networking event hosted by Paper Arts in Bristol, this was great because it also allowed me to give promotion to the project further & what was nice is it was full of young creative people, where they also run projects that will be very useful to me, towards the end of the event I met David, who also introduced me to a girl called Grace, and prompted that maybe I could interview her too. I later emailed Grace & am currently waiting response.

After the event that started at 3 and ended at 4 me and David went outside, across the room was a rather small but open park, we sat and talked about the project & then went ahead and filmed the interview there, I was very happy with the angle & place because it focused on nature and walks however like every filming session problems happened.

When setting up I realised that the battery for the mic wasn't in the bag because I had taken it out the day before to charge, I then left it at home when I left for Bristol although I thought I had everything, this was the first problem but I decided to just go with the camera audio, it was'nt too windy but different parts of wind did come now and then that have slightly effected the audio but with every project for me at the moment is experiment ion & so I am happy with the interview and it gives me something to focus and fix on next time.

The next slight problem was the tripod was loose, I didn't realise it has a lock button and this was slightly undone so during the interview the camera slowly goes up and slightly into a different frame, once again the interview still looks great so I am happy with the out come!

After the interview, I offered to go with a drink, a coffee with David to look at the footage but he was happy for me to view it alone, while I was there so we quickly decided it would be best to film David just walking around, to give some visuals - we did a little cinematic session, that im very happy with!

It was rather quick visit but a well worth visit for him to be apart of the interview!
