THE FIRST TWO INTERVIEWS
NOTE: Any travel expenses, food expenses etc have been bought out of my own pocket.
ANGE HARDY
The first interview date I got the confirmation for was with a folk singer called Ange Hardy - she lives 40 minutes away so planning my travel to the location was key, keeping in contact with her was also key upon arrival I found the location easily but I had no clue what house hers was dispute her telling me previously - to this I phoned her to let her know I arrived and needed to know if I could park where I was or if I should move.
She directed me to new a space & finally met. With her house being open & full of instruments it instantly had the vibe & style I wanted. Before filming we talked for 30 minutes or so about the project & idea's for filming.
They had a big window where all her instruments were but a silly mistake made me face the camera towards the window, meaning the shot was all dark & not at all use able. I suggested we moved some of the instruments to either outside since it was a nice day or we looked for a new location. Her husband who is also her manger on social media, suggested the living room, it had a lot more light & looked really nice - I wanted a shot like this at some stage within the documentary too.

Although we had this space it needed life, her life & her world to it - so we moved the instruments within the space, where I felt it honestly looked natural.
Prior to opening the filming footage on my laptop the footage did look slightly grainy may be due to not enough light however the interview went great & the footage is still useable dispute the slight grainy. After we filmed the interview we had enough time to do a little session out side, this would be used to go as visuals with the documentary but to also show her passion through music, noting that each interview with be spaced out between each other.
My original plan was to do almost a day in a life but with everyone busy, this really would'nt work so just doing sessions with each artist seems to be the best in time & still the best to get enough shots.
SIMON EMMETT
I contacted around a week ago when I saw his profile on LinkedIn, I asked him if he'd be up to be the documentary, within a few hours he responded saying he was interested, I followed the process I've done with all the other interviewee's with sending them the questions and sorting the dates out to film. Easily enough we both had time Monday to meet & film the interview, prior to this we have plans to shoot later of him in action at some shoots he has coming up.
The journey once again was just over 40minutes with us planning to meet at 11:30 - Simon messaged me in the morning to extend that to 12 - So with that in mind i made the mistake of leaving later & to this found myself heading up a road that led to a road closers heading me off track, However I quickly manged to get back on track and got to location with 10 minutes to go, to this I put 3 hours on my parking ticketing what I knew would be more than enough time. I got to the life boat centre where we planned to meet & by 12 we had met & once again talked about the project, he took me to the quiet end of the beach where he suggested would be good to film, from there he gave me full control to decide how we shot from there on wards.
To this I almost made the mistake of filming close to the sea, where it also was a lot more windy, with that in mind this beach had little beach huts with almost wooden docks, where it felt perfect & would still have a great shot! This is the finally result of the shot.

The interview went well however Simon gave very short answers so I had to keep extending questions what I felt was great because each interviewee is different, Simon for example wasn't at all use to interviews but it challenged me at the same time to push questions and work with him for answers, in the end we got 6 minutes of interview - with answers that I can use for the documentary and that tell his story and his style.
We next took ourselves to a cafe, got some drinks & talked for around 30 minutes about photography & filming and reviewing the footage, to this simon even took a photo of the edit on screen and shared it later that day to his instagram! What is perfect for the documentary & for myself to build further connections!

We headed back towards the car park as I wanted to drop of my equipment before heading out to take some photos since I still had a few hours on my ticket, we said bye & he said he'd get back to me with some shooting dates.
The problem I found later was the wind, I knew the wind would be a problem from the start but it wasn't overall to windy, I thought in editing I could easily remove the wind but it was much hardy than I thought, after trying multiple things I got this result
