PRE-PRODUCTION
This journal contains all the pre-production that I have taken out & will take out during the project, showing the planning process from the start to end.
PRE-PRODUCTION
''Work done on a product, especially a film or broadcast programme, before full-scale production begins''
PURPOSE
To produce a creative media production that combines historical and contextual influences with your own artifact.

ORIGINAL STORY & PRE-PRODUCTION
The orginal story took place in a small village, where a boy visits his grandparents house in order to retrieve any last minute items before their house goes on sale, to this he comes across a map. As he leaves the house ironically their next door neighbor a young girl called Millie, leaves her house too where both the characters start talking and adventure together to find where the map leads, little do they know the map is just the start of them & leads no where.
PROBLEMS
Prior to shooting date, one of the actors stopped replying & upon my first visit to the location, I noticed building work to the house/s I wanted to use & this would have been the wrong look for my film.
(Male role)
During my own research and contact with actors, I also put up online submissions to where I reicved 3 applications within a day for the male role

MOOD BOARD/STORY BOARDS
To start building idea's I wanted to create mood boards that would combine all the films I enjoyed with style that I would like to take out, although the second mood board has more films, it's a much more complicated production to take out, whereas my first mood board is more of my style for films.
THE NEW PRE-PRODUCTION!
NEW STORY
My New story follows the story of a relationship and the power between letters in a modern generation. Owen realizes the power that letters have after he receives letter, after letter. This creates memories of flash backs until he realizes that he can do the same when spreading love back through letters.

TESTAMENT OF YOUTH
After changing my idea, I started to look for films & directors that fitted the style I was creating, testament of Youth was a film that would hugely inspired sections of my short film, where shots & the style were something I wanted to achieve, although I was setting my production in a modern time. This scene below fully inspired the second part of my film, with the flash back idea & the reading of the letter.

LOCATIONS - WHERE & WHY
Locations is always tricky because you have something in mind but doesn't always mean you can get it, after searching around I remembered about a little village called Green ham to this it had the perfect setting for my shoot & this is where I wanted to film. Near by was also further locations that I could reach out to use the space.
THE NEW LOCATION
The new location took place very simply at my house, it needed a personal feel to it for the character & with limited time it made sense to use this location, purely based around my room. I felt this location worked well because of the personal aspect with the letter. When you read something personal you normally find a private space - so the bedroom worked perfectly.
KIT
Kit always comes into the whole production process, in my case I have to think about what I will need but also what I can carry around with me from location to location.
Canon 750D's X2 - These will be the main camera's I use to film my short film, having two will allow me to get two angles at the same time If needed.
One tripod, this will provide a steady camera for the filming process especially for long shots etc & allow me to get the certain angles that I want to get.
Canon 550D – This is my personal camera & it will be used as a backup camera, alongside a behind the scenes camera, where I will use it to film & take photos of what’s happening, that I can use within my journal entries.
