FILM PROPOSAL

PROJECT AIM

To produce a creative media production that combines historical and contextual influences with your own artefact.

THE IDEA/STRUCTURE

Trying to create a story that can be told in a limited time frame is something hard enough for me, let alone just creating an overall story from nothing, I knew what style, what film title, colours, how many actors I would need & a look in locations but I didn’t have a complete story, until I thought the easiest way would be to take something that I’ve personally experienced, if that is directly or something I’ve seen happen.

From this I came up with my story, I’m taking aspects of everything that happened but giving it slight change to create the style & mood I want to create into a film production, while using my directed director & film inspirations to move the idea’s forward.

THE STORY

I want the story to follow, two main characters – where the second character is slowly introduced compared to the first character, I want the story to show adventure, passion but also that simpleness to it. Where the film it’s self will use little dialogue. The story follows a boy who embarks on an adventure after finding a map left by his grandparents & once he takes the first steps to following that adventure, everything comes true for a little while.

The short film will aim to be around 5-8 minutes, with our brief time stating no less than 4 minutes on what I think makes the project very do able & gives enough time for the story to show it’s self in clear time.

I aspect that shooting with take a few days, due to multiple locations to be in the film – to creating the story, the film would have had tons of locations so to this, I’ve shorten down the original script idea’s to create something that only focuses upon a few locations but can still tell the story previous to that.

It’s always handy to have additional filming time & to this I plan for extra filming to take a maximum of one week. The overall edit of the film will be rather slow paced to begin with but picks up pace as he enters his adventure.

SUPPORT

Since I’ve never done anything where I’ve worked with actors, or shot on pinned locations – I can apply all other aspects of media production I’ve done from, documentaries, music videos, personal short films, & stop motion (voice over) all into this one production, with my knowledge with the film director I’ve picked & films with a similar style I can combine it all to create this film.

THE IDEA/STRUCTURE | NEW STORY

My New story follows the story of a relationship and the power between letters in a modern generation. Owen realizes the power that letters have after he receives letter, after letter. This creates memories of flash backs until he realizes that he can do the same when spreading love back through letters.

The short film will aim to be around 5 minutes, with our brief time stating no less than 4 minutes on what I think makes the project very do able & gives enough time for the story to show it’s self in clear time, it will follow a similar outline to my first idea where I want to slowly introduce the characters, opening the first seen with a simply location opening, making it clear that there are two main characters, just two people to focus on but not giving too much away. From this our character will receive a letter & we get to see him reading it. With the impact of music I aim for it to show how much it means to him.

I next want to show the passing of time & the passing of him receiving these letters - showing that each day one came, what builds up to him having flash backs of all these memories will more letters get read out. The story will end of with him realizing that maybe he should return the favor & give back, leaving the audience to want to more & understand more about them in a second or longer film from the first one.

I expect that shooting with take a few days, really for each scene, allowing me to experiment with different shots & start editing each section along the process. I also expect that my script will change over the produce so I will be keeping different copies and improved versions in my pre-production as from recording each section and applying it to editing stage it would good to see what works and what doesn't.
