EVALUATION

The aim to our project is to produce a 15 minute TV show, with a 5 minute pre-recorded section. To where we work in teams with directed roles in the group. Dedicated roles can be anything from director, producer, set design/logo design/poster to even working on set within the control room or camera’s.

Our group started off with a under developed, confused idea on what we was going to be doing, but with this we knew it was in the area of film reviews, just not what sort of films or who would be in the show. With problems with the group not always being in at the same time, the only thing we could do was to change the idea to something more understandable, and to me this allowed our group to start producing something much stronger & gave an overall more do able idea with everyone behind it. We had changed our project over to a talk show, where we would interview a local film director/producer – The idea behind it was that it related to our course & we could gain clear information into a professional and what makes their films successful but also for our audience to understand & gain inspiration from a director in the industry.

During this process we had already allied roles from the previous idea & so this allowed us to just re-adjust the roles a little & gave clear targets to each member, with us all under the purpose & idea of the show, we have now produced a questionnaire, title to the show, a contact list for professionals in the industry, to also having a basic set design down – alongside a logo.

During this process, I personally put forward the idea of having a professional on the show on what developed with ideas of other team members pitching & developing of that idea, with my idea of the pre-recorded being another upcoming director, the group responded to the pre-recorded footage idea and it made sense to change the pre-recorded idea to something student based because if we recorded someone for the pre-recorded footage to be on the next show, then there wouldn’t actually be a show for them to go, since this is standalone project and so from this our idea’s started to develop and change, creating conversation and idea’s.

To my idea’s coming up with the show, I came across & analysed similar shows where people would review a movie, talking to the director and getting their opinions, to where I gained inspiration for the pre-recorded footage from a video called ‘’Dare to disrupt’’ by TEDxtalk, it showcased their speakers in a way that was quick and simple while not giving much anyway and I really liked that, to this it still fits within our new pre-recorded idea. Our research really brought me into producing & developing my ideas to a TV show & I felt involved within the videos I watched, gaining not only a story from the videos but also different ways we could shoot our live show, with different angles, different set background & overall how we can make our show standout beyond the ones I watched.

To this I took the time to come up with a name to the show, we wanted something that related, after going through multiple name idea’s from ‘’the filmmakers show, the film show to a range of other idea’s. I finally came down to ‘The Directors Cut show’’ I got inspiration from watching interviews & the aspect that it was their version, their ideas behind their film and so it was there cut, I also came across certain video’s where directors had cut certain parts to their own style & so again heading back to cut idea, and with the idea of us to interview a director, it made sense to call it ‘’The Directors Cut’’, it also comes across as something catchy and easy to remember on what I think gives it that attention it needs, with the title it also gives clear meaning about what the show is, conveying it easy & simply.

With the idea behind the name we needed a logo & I started to experiment with different logo designs, the logo would be something that would represent our TV show and also be placed throughout the show simply in the corner and also on our pre-recorded footage, during experimenting I wanted to find something that would show the idea with more than just text, with some sort of camera or relation to filming in the design, but during this process I found it hard to come up with something that looked good & worked, to this I thought it would be best to look at other logo designs, in the area of film and out of the area to gain inspiration and idea’s after feeling like creating a logo would be impossible. To this I found myself coming up with a lot more idea’s & exporting different versions of logos that could work. Currently the logo design is still undergoing.

The next route in our show is to finish completing everything that can go out to the public, including questions on what type of TV shows a general audience likes & what an audience to our show would like to see, the questions are all completed so processing them onto a sheet & sharing it around is our next steps within that sector. To this contacting our chosen film director would be next, with contacts already gathered, all is left is to contact a few, hoping for at least one response, to this we need to select a chosen date for our TV show to take place to fit in with our clients schedule. With schedules we next to produce a schedule for the shows day & how everything will plan out and start, with questions currently being written for our interviewee we need to make sure we have enough for the conversation to keep flowing for our duration of 10minutes, & lastly is our pre-recorded with the idea of a student showcase, we just need to finalise idea’s & film it.

In conclusion although our idea isn’t 100% there, and with our group looking behind with a lot of the work, pre-production is there and just needs to be finalized & taken into action. I personally feel & have learnt that our group can create a show that shows our team work & client skills, while showing our camera skills within our pre-recorded footage, with more organised communication our deadline & idea for the show is possible.

THE OUTCOME

The outcome was great, we had got a film director & paid for his travel down, I personally picked up from the train station and that all went smoothly however upon arrival of the studio it was un pre-pared to problems making the TV Show live, this was something we personally couldn't help on the day but I believe if we had set up the day before & had a almost practice session this problem could have been stopped. However we all talked to the director and ran him few the questions, after around a hour we finally started to record, and the TV show came out great! With a few pauses from our interviewer there really wasn't anything wrong. The set was what we wanted however could have always been improved. The downside was it was'nt live & we could'nt use our pre-recorded section due to the issues that where non fixable. After the show we packed away and then took our director for a separate interview in the green room.
