PERSONAL CONTRIBUTION

LIVE TV SHOW

THE PROJECT

In groups produce a 15 minute live show that promotes The Arts House and the student film work, to be live streamed via YouTube to a selected audience, to where you will plan, produce and direct as a group.

THE IDEA

We will be producing a live TV show that focuses upon movie reviews alongside the showcase of student work. To where our host and guests will talk about different films across the show.

ROLES

  • SET DESIGNER

A set designer is in charge of designing and creating the sets that appear in films, on television programmes as well as in the theatre. The role involves working and communicating with directors, producers, costume designers and other members of the production team.

  • CONTROL ROOM OPERATOR

Production control is the activity of monitoring and controlling any particular production or operation. Production control is often run from a specific control room or operations room. With inventory control and quality control, production control is one of the key functions of operations management.

PERSONAL ROLE STATEMENT

I will personally contribute to the TV Show, where I will provide research into set designs, where I will also further produce & pitch idea’s in to the final set design for the TV show, upcoming to the live TV show I will then move onto taking control of the control room, this means watching audio levels, camera’s, the live stream & more, while still making sure the set is functioning correctly.

Otherwise known as a vision switcher, I will switch between the different video sources - both from camera shots and videos to be played during an in studio shoot. Along with this, the role will require managing the contrast balance and colour of the final broadcast output. Performing this function occurs via a vision switching panel in the control room.

Alongside production designer where the production designer holds the responsibility of the visual appearance of a production, evoking a vision in accordance with the producer or director.

They design, plan, organise, and arrange set design, equipment availability, as well as the on-screen appearance a production will have.

WHAT MAKES A GOOD CONTROL ROOM OPERATOR?

A Control Room Operator requires someone who can easily work well under pressure, and who adjusts quickly to change. They must be able to underline the role & fix things when they go wrong. Someone who is able to gather data, determine and take a course of action after identifying possible consequences.

WHAT MAKES A GOOD VISION SWITCHER?

A good vision switcher has a natural intuition for which shots and pace of cuts suit the nature of the program, making it make sense and create constant interest for the audience.

WHAT MAKES A GOOD PRODUCTION DESIGNER?

The look of a set or location is vital in drawing the audience into the story and making a film convincing. A great deal of a good production designer un lines how much work and imagination goes into constructing a detailed backdrop & set, creating a story while choosing or building locations /or sets.

FURTHER/OVERALL CONTRIBUTION

Further contribution will include, research into overall TV shows & idea’s into TV shows, research into the type of audience we will focus upon & how we can attract people to the TV show when live streaming, possible idea’s for what can be included in the show, eg movies, personal work and to also provide and dispatch out questionnaire’s in order to finalise idea’s from primary research in what people want to see and their views on how they feel a TV show is successful, lastly to input into the possible 5 minute pre-recorded section of the show, this way I can personally contribute in a range of area’s & provide an impact onto the show.

CONCLUSION

In the end most of the area's i planned to contribute in happened, but with idea's over the place - I prompoted one that grew idea's from everyone else in the idea that we invite a filmmaker down to our show to interview & learn advice from them on how to get into the industry, perfectly fitting within our course topic. I took control with researching people & contacting them, to finally selecting one person, in this case a rather local filmmaker from bristol. As a group we pitched in to pay for his travel down & on my end i offered to pick up him & bring him to the college that took on responsiblly for saftey & opening our college & the show to a good start .

As planned I worked within the studio testing & controlling audio levels alongside switching camera screens for the final live streamed film. pior to this I created questionare's and sent them out.
